About Us

The Vance County Tourism Department (TDA) provides tourism information to leisure, vacation and business travelers visiting Henderson, Vance County and Kerr Lake.  Kerr Lake maps and brochures, Heritage Trail brochures, Community Calendar of Events, special event information, campground and group meeting facility referrals are available by request. (www.kerrlake-nc.com). We host numerous state and national fishing tournaments on Kerr Lake along with our annual Independence Day weekend celebration. 

The department sponsors the annual “Show, Shine, Shag and Dine”, an antique and classic car show with nostalgia drag cars. The show is held the third weekend in October in the historic downtown business district of Henderson. The show usually produces 500+  car entries and 15 - 20,000 spectators. A sister event, the East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame & Reunion is also a part of the weekend long activities.

It is held at Vance-Granville Civic Center and is an induction and awards ceremony honoring well-known drag racing legends from the East Coast from the 50’s thru the 70’s for their contributions to the sport of drag racing. 

New this year will be the “Extreme Rides” car show, aimed at the late model car enthusiast. This event will be held on August 19 – 20, 2005 at Vance – Granville Civic Center.
